A quiet field at harvest time

There is nothing like standing in a grown wheat field.  The wind rustles the fiewheat-meat-farmer-2016ld as it waves glistening in the sun on a late summer day.  Just before the harvest a hush comes to the land and fortifies the plants with their last breath of fresh air.  We buy our grains from farmers who know the gifts of our blessed wheat and their place in our history as foodmakers.  Our wheat is grown in Alberta, Canada by folks like Jim, pictured here.

Following the traditional art of making seitan, we start with a wheat flour that is rich in protein and, after being mixed with our fats and spices, is steamed to create a meaty bite that truly satisfies. We know our foods are nourishing you, as well as the farmers that grow our grains and produce.  Incorporating other grains like barley, pulses like lentils and fresh vegetables is another way we know Field Roast products show you our values.

These whole sources of food from quality growers give our grain meats their unique and bold flavors. Brought to us by trusted partners in foodmaking, we take pride in our ingredients, as we do in our foods. Conscious sourcing is another example of what we call Foodmaker Pride.

Food Makers Guide to the Veg Grill

Weekend plans include iron and fire?  We love Field Roast on a grill and fired ours up the other day in our parking lot!  It was a grey day in Seattle, but that is certainly no reason to be deterred!  We served up all these on buns with some fresh veggies.  Chips on the side, and the break room full of FR folks was happy!

Here is our starter level tips list:

  1. Heat the grill up before you load it up.  You’ll get a nice sear on the surface and the caramelized crispy bits taste awesome.
  2. Use a grill basket or foil to cook veggies or smaller items like onions or potatoes.
  3. Don’t mention your BBQ will be vegan, and see what happens.  Serve up kabobs, grilled fruit like watermelon, peaches and pineapple, and don’t forget Field Roast FieldBurgers with Chao Slices, Sausages, and Frankfurters.
  4. Use a steam tray for the Frankfurters if you are going to have them on the grill for a while, then hit them on the grill to order.  They will be plump, juicy, and delicious.
  5. Keep the condiments simple.  Food bar style condiments are fun, but a lot of work.  If you really want a ton of toppings, consider a BBQ topping potluck so your guests can have fun sharing their favorite condiments!

Field Roast Awarded Company of the Year

VegNews COY TrophyVegNews Magazine has named Field Roast the 2015 Company of the Year in it’s recent December Issue – Thank you to everyone who voted during the 2015 Veggie Awards, and thank you to everyone at VegNews! This occasion allows us to pause and reflect, not only on the great products we’re able to create but on our growth as a company and family.

Although we’ve been doing what we do since 1997, this year has been an eventful one. In 2015, Field Roast became recognized as the first true vegan meat and cheese brand. October marked the one year anniversary of Chao Slices. We settled into our beautiful new building in South Seattle and had room for many wonderful people to join our family. We welcomed two new babies, celebrated over 90 birthdays, and sadly grieved the first loss of our friend and long-time employee. Together, we not only create products but experience life.

Products & People First.

Field Roast is a product-driven company. It started with the idea of making a better quality, accessible vegetarian product. Almost 20 years later, we are still creating products that challenge the old assumptions that only certain people eat vegan food.

We are food makers first; everything else comes second. We don’t sacrifice the values our company was built on, because they created our food, our community and our growth. Our people stay true to the belief that there is dignity in making food.

NEW Gourmet Vegan Roasts this Holiday!

As Fall settles in and November grows near, the thought of holiday food is on the mind. We’ve been busy gathering new ingredients and stuffing our facility with delicious food to send out. With Thanksgiving just around the corner, we want to tell you about the new gourmet roasts we’ve created for you!

Field Roast has been making stuffed vegetarian roasts for over 12 years and recently put a lot of heart into expanding these options. Knowing that the food preferences of those surrounding a Thanksgiving table vary greatly, we want to make stuffed roasts that are decadent and deliciously appealing to anyone. Gone are the days of fake turkeys and “substitutes” – these roasts raise the bar for vegan options.

One more thing. Food brings friends and family together no matter the occasion, so we’ve decided to offer our entire line of stuffed roasts year-round!

Inspired by the Pacific Northwest, we’ve gathered foraged chanterelle mushrooms and wild huckleberries. These special ingredients accent a traditional bread and wild rice stuffing wrapped in a rich smokey tomato grain meat seasoned with our own special blend of spices. Brush with Pineapple Mustard Glaze to add a sweet and savory finish. We are very proud to offer you the most decadent vegan roast to enjoy with loved ones this season.

New! Celebration Roast with Traditional Bread Stuffing
and Porcini Mushroom Gravy

Delightfully seasoned with rubbed sage, garlic and lemon juice, this evolution of our classic Celebration Roast features a traditional bread stuffing made with fresh onions, celery, cranberries and butternut squash. As a special accompaniment to the roast, we offer you the perfect portion of our Porcini Mushroom Gravy. Hazelnut Cranberry Roast en Croute

Once made exclusively for the holidays, our customers would wait year-round for the Hazelnut Cranberry Roast En Croute! It is the perfect centerpiece and most sophisticated comfort food. This vegetarian roast holds a lot of flavor! Rich, hazelnut-infused grain meat stuffed with Field Roast sausages, crystallized ginger, cranberries and apples – all wrapped in a savory puff pastry.

Classic Celebration Roast 

This stuffed Celebration Roast was introduced in 2003 and continues to be a classic favorite. We start with a rich and savory sausage-style stuffing made from Field Roast grain meat, butternut squash, mushrooms and Granny Smith apples seasoned with a blend of rosemary, thyme and sage. We then surround the stuffing with our most luxuriant grain meat seasoned with rubbed sage, garlic and lemon juice. As a centerpiece, appetizer or sliced in a sandwich, our Celebration Roast is great for any occasion.

Canada, say “Chao”!

After much patience from our Canadian fans, we are happy to announce that our first shipment of Chao Slices is ready to head North and should start to hit Canadian stores in October! If you would like to know when & where, please ask your local store or use our store locator as a guide for who to ask.
