Chili Cheese Frank at Safeco Park!

Field Roast Chili Frank 3 29 13Take me out to the ball game, buy me some peanuts and crackerjack, and an All American Field Roast Frankfurter!

Felix, and the boys in blue weren’t the only ones working on their game this winter. Field Roast has returned to Safeco Field for another season, ready to hit one out of the park with our new specialty dog.

In addition to the Frankfurter, and our hand-formed burgers, this year we have taken a classic combination to a whole new level. Grab a couple extra napkins folks, we’ve got chili dogs!

We start with a warm outdoor roll, add one of our Field Roast Franks grilled to perfection, smother it in our garden fresh vegetable chili, and top it with a creamy vegan cheese sauce. This sucker is a grand slam!

Come down to the ballpark this summer, to root our M’s back into contention; we’ll make sure you don’t go hungry…

The Mariners are back in town tomorrow the 25th!

Bæjarins beztu pylsu: Icelandic Frankfurters!

Icelandic Frank

I recently got back from a week long vacation to Iceland, and besides being an island nation known for ash spewing volcanoes, an amazing music scene, glaciers, hot springs and the Northern Lights….Iceland is known for their hotdogs.  Iceland for the most part is not known for its food; well, not in a good “I want to eat that” kind of way anyways. Down on the waterfront in the capitol city of Reykjavik sits a tiny hotdog stand with a long line of people waiting to get this Icelandic treat (note there is not a veggie option). This little hotdog stand is famous and was even once visited former President and now vegan, Bill Clinton. I had to know what all the hype was about so I took thorough notes on what makes this a hotdog difficult to resist.

My post vacation, Blue Lagoon induced stress free words of advice, are “Go to Iceland!” but until then you can enjoy a little bit of this Scandinavian culture at home.

What you’ll need for your Bæjarins beztu pylsu:

1)      Field Roast Franks

2)      Sweet brown or yellow mustard

3)      Remoulade (recipe below)

4)      Crispy Fried Onions

5)      Hot Dog Buns

6)      Optional: finely chopped white onions

For the remoulade sauce  (makes enough for six Franks)

1 cup vegan mayonnaise
1 tbsp. drained, finely chopped cucumber pickle
1 tbsp. drained, chopped capers
2 tsp. French mustard
1 tsp. finely chopped parsley
1/2 tsp. fresh tarragon

Field Roast Sponsors Bratfest in Madison Wisconsin

Field Roast at Bratfest 2012 in Madison, Wisconsin

This weekend Field Roast Company becomes a proud sponsor of the Bratfest in Madison, Wisconsin.

We have a family connection to Madison!   Malcolm Lee, our intrepid Director of Operations, has been enjoying Madison summers from birth, as his mom’s side of the family has been a part of the Madison community for many, many years.

His grandmother Marilyn Ross a middle school teacher there for over 20 years and his grandfather Leonard Ross retired from the faculty of the Psychology Department at the University of Wisconsin after many years.  His mother, Terry Ross, returned to that fair city ten years ago and now teaches sustainable business at the technical college.  His sister Scout is a junior at East High School and his Uncle David teaches history at West High School.

Suffice to say that Madison is our Seattle home away from home.  Malcolm will be in Madison this weekend repping the roast and meeting with the Metcalfe family who coordinates the event.  The Metcalfes have owned three grocery stores in the Madison area since 1917 and are a big part of the community – Metcalfe’s Markets.  If you see Malcolm, he will be wearing a Field Roast t-shirt – be sure to say hi.

Let the Camping Season Begin! Please

We had good intentions to roast some Frankfurters over an open fire followed by some gooey s’mores.  However, while the rest of the US is kicking off summer this Memorial Day weekend, Seattle is still debating when summer will begin.  The warm spring rains put a damper on our plans, but that doesn’t stop us from dreaming and planning for that first camp fire roasted Frankfurter and marshmallow (vegan of course) filled summer nights.

I asked people around the office what they thought a campfire menu should be.  Most people just said a roasted Frankfurters and s’mores.  Maybe we lacked creativity because when I did a web-search there were gads of ideas ranging from slow cooked Dutch-oven chili, pizza, cobblers, foil-wrapped dinners and the list goes on.  Even with all of those great ideas it just seemed right to do something simple; find a nice stick and master the art of a campfire cooked Frank.

Throughout the summer we hope to create some great menus for you and your friends and family to enjoy, whether it be around a fire pit in the backyard, a grill on the porch or a late night  throw together quick meal after spending all evening out in the lawn with the warm grass under your feet.

I’ve constructed a rather simple campfire meal, because I don’t know about you, but I don’t have a Dutch-oven for the campfire…yet.  We’d love to see photos of your Memorial Day campfires and the spread of wonderful food you share together.  Please send your photos to  May you all have a safe and memorable Memorial Day Weekend!

Menu: (Vegan Campout Menu)

  • Field Roast Frankfurters w/ fixins of your choice
  • Fruit Salad with spring time berries, watermelon and apples
  • Foiled wrapped hobo potatoes
  • Foil wrapped asparagus with lemon
  • S’mores

Disclaimer: Do not set Frankfurters onto grills before removing the package.
